At the end of “John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum,” Keanu Reeves‘ Wick and Laurence Fishburne‘s The Bowery King agreed to join forces against The High Table. Now the fight is on, and it’s about to go global in “John Wick: Chapter 4,” in theaters next March.
Reeves returns as the legendary hitman in the franchise’s fourth installment, which sees the “John Wick” world expand beyond the confines of its fictional NYC backdrop. But where is John Wick headed besides New York City? All around the world, it seems, with pitstops in France, Germany, and Japan.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis, courtesy of Lionsgate:
John Wick (Keanu Reeves) uncovers a path to defeating the High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes.
Alongside Reeves and Fishburne, “JW4” also sees franchise regulars Lance Reddick and Ian McShane reprise their roles as the concierge and manager of The Continental Hotel. Newcomers for this installment include Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Clancy Brown, Marko Zaror, and Scott Adkins. Joining them are Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, and Rina Sawayama.
Chad Stahelski helms “Chapter 4” from a script by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch. Dan Lausten, who shot the last two “John Wick” movies, returns as the film’s cinematographer. Stahelski also serves as co-producer with Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee.
With its globe-trotting premise, “John Wick: Chapter 4” promises to be the biggest film in the franchise yet. But will Wick survive the latest onslaught against him? Count on it. And don’t forget about “Ballerina,” Ana de Armas‘ upcoming “John Wick” spinoff that’s also on the way, maybe as soon as late 2023. The movie hits theaters on March 24, 2023.
