Johnny Simmons seems poised for big things. He’s already co-starred with Carey Mulligan in “The Greatest,” worked with Robert Redford in “The Conspirator” and notched some geek cred with Edgar Wright‘s “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” and now the actor has lined up roles in couple more films.
Variety reports the Simmons has joined “21 Jump Street” and “Perks Of Being A Wallflower.” Simmons, hang on to your agent dude. He’ll likely kick things off with ‘Jump Street’ which started rolling this week. The film, a big screen take on the ’80s show, stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as undercover cops who are assigned to take their work into schools. Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Dave Franco and Jake Johnson co-star in the film that will be directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord.
As for ‘Wallflower,’ it has a bit more dramatic heft to it. Based on the book by Stephen Chbosky — who is also directing — the story centers on a shy, unpopular teenager who, through a series of letters to an anonymous person, explores his awkward adolescence including drug use, abuse and sexuality in 1991 Pittsburgh. Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Mae Whitman, Nina Dobrev and Paul Rudd are all aboard for the film.
And if that wasn’t enough — and in case you forgot — Simmons is also set for “The Hand Job” this year. The project by Maggie Carey, who is writing and directing, already stars Aubrey Plaza, Bill Hader, Alia Shawkat, Mae Whitman, Donald Glover, Connie Britton, Andy Samberg, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Scott Porter and Dominic Dierkes and features as a pretty outrageous premise. As described by Hader it follows a “….type-A, studious girl who graduates high school and hasn’t done anything with a guy. The summer before college she decides that she has to find out how to do everything in order to be properly prepared, so she makes a very serious bullet list of everything, like… hand-job, titty-fuck, blow-job, fingering, and just kinda checks one off every time she does it. She’s being the aggressor and is very straight-forward about it, like ‘Okay, so I’m going to give you a hand-job now.’ And the guys are very taken aback about it, especially her straight-laced friends.” Sounds brilliantly filthy.
All in all, there’s going to be a lot your Simmons in your movie-going future.
