Right now, all the chatter surrounding Pixar seems to be about the upcoming “Cars 3.” The mega-popular film franchise is about to take over the multiplex, but that’s not the only Pixar film set to be released this year. “Coco” is coming up this Thanksgiving, and Disney/Pixar have released the newest trailer for the film.
Unlike the teaser from earlier this year, this trailer provides more about the film’s story. “Coco” is about Miguel, an aspiring musician who is obsessed with Ernesto De La Cruz. After some hijinks, Miguel finds himself in the Land of the Dead, where he meets up with a trickster named Hector. They team up to go on a journey to discover the real story behind Miguel’s family history. Clearly, from the footage seen in the trailer, “Coco” continues to show Pixar’s trend of beautiful animation with tons of heart.
“Coco” features an all-Latino, star-studded cast, with Anthony Gonzalez, Gael Garcia Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Edward James Olmos, and Gabriel Iglesias. The film is directed by Lee Unkrich from “Toy Story 3” and co-directed by Adrian Molina, a story artist for “Monsters University.” Here’s the official synopsis:
Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself magically transported to the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.
The last time Pixar released two films during a year was 2015, when they released “Inside Out” and “The Good Dinosaur.” Obviously, they’re hoping for better success with “Coco” than what “The Good Dinosaur” did at the box office. It’ll be tough with a crowded November and December, headlined by “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” both Disney films.
“Coco” will be released November 22.
