Got a Tip?

Judd Apatow To Produce Comedy About Celebrity Charity ‘Do Gooders’

Sort of like the comedic equivalent of Scott Rudin, getting Judd Apatow to produce your film is a stamp of approval most writers and filmmakers would kill for. This year, Apatow will find his named attached to a handful of highly anticipated comedies including “Bridesmaids,” the Paul Rudd/Jennifer Aniston vehicle “Wanderlust” as well as the soon-to-be-lensing collaboration between Nicholas Stoller and Jason Segel, “Five Year Engagement.” But the ever busy writer/director/producer has added another project to his growing slate.

THR reports that Apatow is throwing his weight behind “Do Gooders.” Written by Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck (“King Of The Hill,” the upcoming ensemble comedy “A Good Old Fashioned Orgy“) plot details are being kept on the down low, but the comedy will center on actors who are looking to help those in need. It’s a pretty rich premise so it’ll be interesting to see what the filmmakers cook up in the Apatow lab.

Of course, we don’t have to remind you that Apatow will be pretty busy this summer, shooting his first film since 2009’s “Funny People.” Starring Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd, the film will be a spinoff from “Knocked Up” with the duo reprising their roles from that film. Megan Fox and Albert Brooks are currently negotiating for parts in the film, and with the story under lock and key, this one is already moving in interesting, unexpected directions.
