The failure of the “Solo: A Star Wars” series was a huge blow for Lucasfilm, their first big defeat after years of Midas Touch-hits. But people liked, at least, most of the characters. Most of all, of course, a young Lando Calrissian as played by actor/filmmaker/rapper Donald Glover. Well, that element of ‘Solo’ will go forward. Simien is currently coming off the horror satire, “Bad Hair,” which debuted on Hulu in the fall. The final season of “Dear White People” is expected on Netflix in 2021.

You can see the logo for “Lando” below. Some suspected a crime series from “Solo” to materialize centering on Darth Maul and the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate that’s teased at the end of that film, but details didn’t materialize. Who knows, though, clearly Lucasfilm loves that character and storyline that has traveled through two animated shows–they didn’t tease Maul at the end of that series for nothing! As for Lucasfilm, after the event, they didn’t have much of anything new to say, but this is the closest they came to an official statement:
The galaxy’s favorite scoundrel, Lando Calrissian, will return in Lando, a brand-new event series for Disney+. Justin Simien, creator of the critically-acclaimed “Dear White People” and a huge Star Wars fan, is in the early stages of developing the project.
