“We’re talking about creating a murderer’s row of the best day players ever for ‘Anchorman 2,’ ” director Adam McKay told The Playlist in an interview last year. “Like having every single one line or three line role, just be someone we just love — just making sure every day player is a home run.” Dude wasn’t kidding. Perhaps you’ve seen some of the set images recently that have spoiled some of the cameos in “Anchorman: The Legend Continues,” perhaps you haven’t. If you want to keep some of these surprises under wraps, then read no further. No really, *spoilers, spoilers ahead* (cue someone in the comments section saying this warning wasn’t enough).
In case you’ve been living under a rock, “Anchorman: The Legend Continues” chronicles the continuing adventures of San Diego’s top rated newsman and his channel News 4 team. The movie stars Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy, with Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, Christina Applegate and David Koechner all returning. So here’s five utterly ridiculous photos from the set, revealing a few more cameos in what looks like the most ludicrously fun shoot of 2013. Read on….
1. It’s the worst photographic evidence on earth, yes, but Kanye West was apparently spotted on the set of ‘Anchorman 2’ yesterday in Atlanta and multiple reports seem to confirm this. Is he playing Michael Jackson? This is unclear, but Ye is today’s biggest casting cameo reveal.
2. Remember the classic News Channel melee in “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy”? The one that featured cameos by Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson and Tim Robbins? Well, boy, the new melee in the sequel has escalated quickly. To insane levels, really. Here’s Sacha Baron Cohen preparing to bash Amy Poehler with both fists, while Tina Fey gets ready to attack him from behind.
3. A bit more news anchor class is brought to this fight with the inclusion of Liam Neeson. There’s also Jim Carrey as well.
4. McKay, Ferrell and co. seem to love the absurd so the fight seems to have blended into the surreally bizarre by bringing back people from different eras, including a Civil War officer (John C. Reilly), a Roman goddess of some sort (Kirsten Dunst) and a Minotaur (wtf?).
5. Ron Burgundy also does battle with Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws” in the film because, well, why not?
Cameos already revealed include Harrison Ford, Nicole Kidman, Vince Vaughn, Kristen Wiig, James Marsden, Meagan Good and Greg Kinnear. Of course that’s all we know for now. “Anchorman: The Legend Continues” is set to land in theaters on December 20, 2013. Stay classy until then, planet Earth.
