Kate Winslet Was Told To Hide Her "Belly Rolls" During 'Lee' Production: "Not On Your Life!"

As she progresses through her career, which includes being an A-lister for more than 20 years, it’s clear that Kate Winslet has discovered her power as a performer. But that’s not just what we see on screen, but how she carries herself when she’s not acting. And apparently, a crew member felt this power during the production on Winslet’s new film, “Lee.”

Speaking to Harpers Bazaar UK, Kate Winslet talked about her new film “Lee,” about the famous war photographer Lee Miller. According to Winslet, there was a scene in the film where she sits in a bikini, and she was told to try to hide her “belly rolls,” which didn’t sit right with the actor.

“There’s a bit where Lee’s sitting on a bench in a bikini,” said Winslet. “And one of the crew came up between takes and said: ‘You might want to sit up straighter.’ So you can’t see my belly rolls? Not on your life! It was deliberate, you know?”

Winslet also talked about how she doesn’t mind looking less-than-perfect on the big screen, and said, “The opposite. I take pride in it because it is my life on my face, and that matters. It wouldn’t occur to me to cover that up.”

In addition to Winslet, “Lee” features an ensemble cast that includes Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, Andy Samberg, Noémie Merlant, Josh O’Connor, and Alexander Skarsgård. The film marks the feature directorial debut of veteran cinematographer, Ellen Kuras

“Lee” had its debut at last year’s TIFF, and the film will finally arrive in theaters on September 27.
