Despite the public fracas between star Kevin Costner and “Yellowstone” writer/creator/sometimes director Taylor Sheridan, the show will have more life to it. However, that wasn’t always the case. Following their public fall-out and the news that its lead star would not return to the hit series, Paramount Network announced that season five of “Yellowstone” would be its last. At the same time, they announced a “Yellowstone ‘24” spin-off, and this was the show that Matthew McConaughey was rumored to star in with some of the “Yellowstone” cast members.

Ultimately, that plan did not come to fruition and was scrapped. A spin-off show called “The Madisons” was announced and is going into production, but McConaughey is not in it, and it only seems set in the “Yellowstone” universe with no apparent connection as of right now. And as for “Yellowstone,” well, Sheridan and Paramount eventually decided—probably when McConaughey bowed out—that instead, the show would soldier on, and this current second part of season five would lead into a season six and beyond. So, all’s well that ends well, right?
Yes, and maybe, but the actress suggested the show was concluding in a recent New York Times interview with Kelly Reilly, who plays the fiery and outspoken Beth Dutton.
When asked about the “Yellowstone” finale, she was cagey. “It’s an ending,” she said. “We are absolutely ending this show.”

Presumably, she means there’s a finality to this season and story metaphorically, given that Kevin Costner’s John Dutton is not in the series and presumably dies in the first episode to explain his absence (further evidence: Paramount is not giving out advance screeners to press, even those conducting interviews in advance).
The Times does not elaborate on the quotes, but when they asked Paramount about it, the network also apparently remained circumspect. So, who knows?
When asked directly about additional seasons and spin-offs, Reilly suggested that some of those plans are still in the works.
“If there is a new beginning, it’s a new beginning,” she said, suggesting she might like to see her character mature. I’m like, all right, let’s get up and put our big girl pants on.”
But for now, she is apparently ready to put Beth aside for now and potentially even let her go. “It’s a big energy,” she said. “That’s not something in my body that I need. I love her, but I’m very happy to let her disappear.”
