Got a Tip?

Kevin Feige Says No Marvel Phase 4 Announcement Until Next Year And Confirms ‘Eternals’ Rumor

This is it, everybody. We are in the home stretch of “Avengers: Infinity War” promotion. After numerous clips, rumors, interviews, and a seemingly never-ending amount of marketing materials assaulting our eyeballs, the film is actually going to be in theaters at the end of the week. So, now’s normally the time when we start to turn our focus to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, outside of what’s already announced, that future is pretty unclear. And it doesn’t look like there’s going to be very much to talk about for at least another year. Recently, The Playlist’s Rodrigo Perez got to interview Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and asked him about the future of the MCU.

He confirmed that we’re going to wait at least until ‘Avengers 4’ hits theaters next May before any Phase 4 announcements, saying:

“Ideally, I think that’s what we’d like to do. We did a big event a couple of years ago where we announced like ten movies between 2014 and 2019 and we haven’t delivered all of those yet and we haven’t delivered the promise when we made that really big deal of announcing all those movies. And so now to make a big deal of ‘even more movies, before the movies that we already announced!’ doesn’t seem like the right thing to do.”

There was speculation that perhaps after ‘Infinity War’ hit theaters, that maybe Feige and Co. would announce the new title of ‘Avengers 4,’ while also revealing more of the upcoming Phase 4. And the most obvious location to do that is the annual San Diego Comic-Con. However, according to Den of Geek, Marvel Studios won’t have a presence at the upcoming event. So, no announcements there.

Feige did tell them when they might expect the announcement, however. “So we’re gonna wait until Comic-Con next year,” Feige said. Needless to say, getting into Hall H next year is going to be damn near impossible. Might as well start camping now.

While we don’t know exactly which films will make up Phase 4, we do have a little bit of an idea. It’s been confirmed that Marvel Studios will work on “Black Panther 2,” a “Spider-Man: Homecoming” sequel, and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” Outside of those films, not much is known. Last week, we reported that one of the new properties being discussed in “The Eternals.” And in a recent interview with The Wrap, Feige confirms that speculation.

“‘Eternals’ is one of many many many things that we are actively beginning to have creative discussions about to see if we believe in them enough to put them on a slate,” Feige said.

Guess we’ll have to wait until July 2019 to find out which of those “many many many things” will turn into actual films.
