Though “Killers of the Flower Moon” has been one of, if not the most anticipated films of 2023, there has been quite a few questions about how it was going to be released. We knew Apple was going to have a theatrical element to the release, before putting it on the TV+ streaming platform, but now, it’s clear the studio is banking big on Martin Scorsese’s latest, as a full worldwide theatrical release is being revealed.

According to Apple, the studio is teaming with Paramount to distribute Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” to theaters around the world on October 20. As for when it will debut on Apple TV+, that isn’t known at this time. If nothing else, it doesn’t sound as if Apple is doing the Netflix model of putting a film in theaters for a couple of weeks (qualifying it for awards) and then sharing it on streaming. This really does seem as if Apple is hoping to make quite a bit of money theatrically and eventually get it on the streaming service.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” has only become more and more anticipated as the year has progressed. Thanks to an incredible debut at Cannes this year, people are assuming Scorsese’s drama will be one of the frontrunners for Oscars gold. Honestly, you can understand why Apple would bank on a full theatrical release, especially after the success of something like Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.” That’s another film from a prestigious director that has an R-rating and a long run-time. While we’re probably not expecting ‘Killers’ to be one of the highest-grossing R-rated films of all time, such as “Oppenheimer,” there’s definitely a desire amongst film fans to see these types of movies in cinemas.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion, and Tantoo Cardinal. The film is written by Eric Roth and directed by Scorsese.
