Kristen Stewart Says “Hollywood Is Disgustingly Sexist,” Questions When Actresses Decide To Go Nude

nullIf the change that is needed in Hollywood is going to come, it’s not going to arrive from the entrenched veterans of the industry, but the younger generation making their voices heard. Earlier this month, Carey Mulligan spoke out against the "massively sexist" movie world and cited a need for more female driven stories. Now Kristen Stewart is adding her thoughts to the fray, and they are unequivocal.

“Women inevitably have to work a little bit harder to be heard,” Stewart told Harper’s Bazaar (in a portion of the interview not yet online). “Hollywood is disgustingly sexist. It’s crazy. It’s so offensive it’s crazy.” And yet, at the same time, Stewart is wary of on screen nudity, and takes an interesting position, especially given she revealed some skin herself in "On The Road."

“I … question when a fairly established actress finally does a scene in a movie when she shows her boobs, and she hasn’t done it up until [that] moment,” she said. “And maybe she only did it for the prestigious part and it’s OK for this time because it’s classy, and I’m like, ‘Oh God, thank you for revealing to the world your treasure’.” But it’s not like she’s opposed to sexuality on screen in general, but it has to serve a purpose.

“I only hate them when they’re contrived. That’s when it’s grotesquely uncomfortable,” Stewart stated. “On ‘Twilight,’ we had to do the most epic sex scene of all time. It had to be transcendent and otherworldly, inhuman, better sex than you can possibly ever imagine. We were like, ‘How do we live up to that?’ It was agony. Which sucks, because I wanted it to be so good.”

I know you’ll have an opinion on Stewart’s comments, so leave them below. Play nicely folks.
