In June of 2009, “Fanboys” director Kyle Newman said he was preparing to direct a biopic of the French model/actress/ singer Brigitte Bardot, and had conveniently picked his wife Jaime King to star as the iconic Gallic superstar.
However, when recently asked on French radio about the planned biopic, Bardot — known to be rather outspoken in her old age to put it mildly — went off. “A film about my life? But I am not dead,” she said furiously.
The irony of it all is that, according to the Daily Beast, Newman and King are no longer attached to the project, but that didn’t prevent the publication from egging her on and asking about it. “I am astonished and surprised that someone could consider making a film about me without talking to me about it,” she wrote in a letter that also rambled on about the atrocities committed to animals in this day and age (Bardot is a huge animal rights activist).
Apparently, film historian Ken Kramer has purchased the film rights to a different Bardot book and has been trying to reach her to no avail (i.e. not gonna happen, don’t expect the film to come out anytime soon).
King’s resume isn’t exactly stacked with Academy Award favorites — “My Bloody Valentine,” “Fanboys,” “Pearl Harbor ,” “The Spirit” and 2005’s “Sin City” are the bigger ones that come to mind — so we can’t say we’re unhappy. And Newman’s work — we’ll just say, “Fanboys,” despite the incessant film-geek love, was buried by The Weinstein Company for a good reason.
Up next for Newman is likely an adaptation of Stephen Edmond’s comic book “Emo Boy.” It’s evidently a satirical comic followed the travails of the most self-dramatizing young man in the history of the world, whose emotions were so intense he even had ‘ emo powers.’ ” Gross.
