‘Land’ Trailer: Robin Wright Retreats From One Wilderness Into Another In Her Directorial Debut

Robin Wright has certainly made her mark in front of the camera. She was the subject of Cary Elwes’ affection and left him—quite literally—rolling in “The Princess Bride.” She also played the same kind of role opposite Tom Hanks in “Forrest Gump,” beckoning him and generations of film fanatics to get those legs moving! And let’s not forget her portrayal of the Vice POTUS and POTUS in Netflix’s “House of Cards.” She’s done all that and much more in her 30+ year career. Now, she steps behind the lens for the first time in “Land.”

Wright portrays Edee Mathis, a desperate woman pursuing dangerous things. Sharing the screen with her and serving as a source of possible salvation is Academy Award nominee Demián Bichir (“A Better Life”). Kim Dickens (“Gone Girl” & “Deadwood”) also stars.

The movie—giving vibes of 2014’s “Wild”—is collaboratively written by newcomer Jesse Chatham, Golden Globe nominee Liz Hannah (“The Post”), and Erin Dignam, who directed Wright in the films “Denial” and “Loved.” Speaking of Wright, she’s one of the executive producers on the project. Additional producers include Allyn Stewart (“Sully”), veteran casting director Lora Kennedy (“Argo” & “The Town”), Leah Holzer, and Oscar nominee Peter Saraf (“Little Miss Sunshine”).

“Land”—distributed by Focus Features—will have its world premiere at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival and will eventually be released on February 12, 2021. Check out the trailer below and see if Wright’s Edee can navigate all obstacles.
