Got a Tip?

Rian Johnson Talks “Massive” & “Extended” ‘The Last Jedi’ Deleted Scenes With Rey, Luke & DJ

**SPOILERS AHEAD**

Already the longest “Star Wars” movie ever, running two-and-a-half hours long, Rian Johnson still left plenty on the cutting room floor as he put together “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” He has already stressed that the movie that’s currently in cinemas, is his director’s cut, but the good news for fans is that they’ll still get a chance to see what didn’t make the multiplex when ‘The Last Jedi’ hits home video.

“There’s soooo much stuff we had to cut out of this movie,” Johnson recently told us. “The movie is better for it, but some of my favorite stand-alone scenes ended up on the cutting room floor. So there’s going to be really a lot of really—I’m going to sound like I’m selling Blu-rays here, but there’s going to be a lot of really extensive deleted scenes that are included as extras on the home video. I’m excited for folks to see them.”

So, what will we able to see in all that footage? Well, these won’t be mere scraps, with the director promising some very substantial scenes.

“[On] the island, there’s a massive sequence that we shot with Daisy and Mark, which is kind of an additional sort of trial/test that she goes through, that involves her and Mark, and then a big emotional scene between the two of them. I mean, it’s big stuff, it’s like actual real scenes,” he told Collider.

“There’s a whole extended sequence where Finn and Rose and DJ sneak through the Mega Destroyer when they’re kind of, after they sneak in with DJ and they’re trying to find the tracker,” Johnson added. “There’s a whole extended sequence. It’s a full sequence of like stuff with them sneaking through this big office area of the Mega Destroyer and then having to fake out these Stormtroopers.”

I’m totally on board for as much extra footage of Benicio del Toro‘s DJ as possible. No word yet on when “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” will hit home video, but if the plans follow the release pattern of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” it’ll likely be in the spring.
