‘Later The War’: Charlie Kaufman’s Next Film To Star Eddie Redmayne, Tessa Thompson & Patsy Ferran

We haven’t had a feature film effort from screenwriter turned director Charlie Kaufman since 2020’s “I’m Thinking of Ending Things,” but the surrealist filmmaker has landed a cast for his next project, titled “Later The War.”

This exciting update comes from Deadline and mentions that the gestating project has landed a trio of actors that include Academy Award-winner Eddie Redmayne (“The Danish Girl”), Tessa Thompson (“Passing”), and Patsy Ferran (“Mickey 17”).

The subject matter sounds right on point and could nicely fit in alongside Kaufman’s previous work. He is said to have adapted the script from the short story “Debby’s Dream House” by acclaimed author Iddo Gefen. That original short story from Gefen “follows a man who manufactures dreams for people but ultimately begins creating nightmares for them.”

Kaufman’s creative calling cards have been memory, perception, and art, so this brief “Later The War” description suggests it may complement his oeuvre thus far.

“Later The War” has a producing team comprising Ken Kao and Josh Rosenbaum of Waypoint Entertainment, Sarah Green of Brace Cove Productions, and Steven Demmler.

Redmayne most recently has been leading a Peacock/Sky Atlantic series remake of “The Day of The Jackal” as he plays a skilled and ruthless pay-for-hire assassin. Although, we’re not sure if those skills will help with what Kaufman has in mind for the British actor.

An actual synopsis and character information would undoubtedly give us more to work from and how Kaufman potentially plans on executing his vision; then again, predictability isn’t a word used to describe the filmmaker.
