Judging by the hundreds of six-second screenwriting lessons he’s given on his Vine page, screenwriter Brian Koppelman (“Rounders,” “Ocean’s Thirteen”) really likes talking about the craft. So when he invites a fellow writer like Beau Willimon to be a guest on his podcast, The Moment, you know you’re in for a treat. Beau Willimon, of course, is the creator and showrunner of “House of Cards,” which has recently been renewed for a fourth season. He sat down with Koppelman for an hour-long discussion which ran through an array of topics, all under the umbrella of writing.

First of all, their conversation took place the same day Koppelman found out that his show, “Billions,” was being ordered to series by Showtime. So, naturally, he had tons of questions about how Willimon handles being the showrunner for a series like “House of Cards.” Furthermore, Willimon talks about what it felt like when his play, “Farragut North,” was adapted by George Clooney and Grant Heslov (it became 2011’s “The Ides of March”), and how accepting and thrilled he was to see what someone else’s vision would bring to the story. Koppelman and Willimon also take some time to sing the praises of writer/director Tony Gilroy (“Michael Clayton”), and they talk about how he lent a hand as a consulting producer for season three of “House of Cards.”
