Now that the short-lived and ridiculous "bear rape" controversy surrounding "The Revenant" is over, we can get back to talking about the actual movie, and at the moment, the buzz is growing quite loud. The film has started screening for critics and if you put your ear to the ground, you’ll hear the praise loud and clear for Alejandro G. Inarritu‘s vengeance tale, but let’s not forget, the picture has quite a lineup of artists for the score.

Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto have written the score for "The Revenant," with additional music coming from The National‘s Bryce Dessner. And today there’s a little taste of the latter’s contribution with his "Imagining Buffalo." It’s a synth and strings combo that’s quite stirring, even if it’s not what we’d immediately associated with Inarritu’s gritty and grim tale. But as we know, if there’s a cinematic rulebook, the filmmaker prefers to rip it in half and do things his way.
The soundtrack will be released digitally on the same day the film opens on December 25th. It will then hit CD on January 8th, but if you want it on vinyl, you’ll have to wait until April. Check out the full tracklist and Dessner’s tune below. [FACT/Film Music Reporter]
