Listen: Trent Reznor Previews ‘Gone Girl’ Soundtrack On Nine Inch Nails Website

Gone Girl“It’s a much darker film than I was expecting,” Trent Reznor said a few months ago about David Fincher’s upcoming drama/thriller “Gone Girl.” “The book is not exactly uplifting or happy, but it’s a nasty film.” A nasty David Fincher film? Scored once again by Trent Reznor and co-composer Atticus Ross? Sold.

“Gone Girl” will be the third collaboration between Reznor, Ross and Fincher. They worked together on “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” and even won an Academy Award for their bruising “The Social Network” score. “[We] made a movie about married people who hate each other,” Ben Affleck laughed in a recent Details interview "Welcome!” Fincher responded with trademark dry, deadly sarcasm. “It’s about hope.” Nasty indeed.

So what does the soundtrack sound like? Well, thank you Trent Reznor. He put a preview of the sinister, textured soundtrack on the Nine Inch Nails website, and while it’s reminiscent of their previous collaborations, there’s also a creepily eerie vibe to it, like sickly insects buzzing around in your head. It’s Reznor and Atticus’ twisted interpretation of this Fincher dictum: "Think about the really terrible music you hear in massage parlors."

“This film has been really fun to work on. It’s been an interesting challenge with some different parameters, and it keeps us on our toes,” Reznor said. "That’s what makes it good.” Take a listen to the preview of the “Gone Girl” soundtrack below and look out for our review next week. “Gone Girl” makes its world premiere at the New York Film Festival next week.
