Can things get stranger for the characters in “Los Espookys?” Season 2 of the HBO series sees Renaldo and friends handle a new set of challenges. From ghostly pursuits to the demands that come from everyday life, they’re about to experience horror on every level.
The project’s path to a second season took an unexpected turn. With over half of the filming completed, the Chilean set shut down due to COVID. A growing number of cases may have temporarily stopped the crew but it did little to change the creative team’s approach. The results are a distinctive style that sets ‘Espookys’ apart from other genre-blending titles. Co-creator Julio Torres revealed how he, along with co-creators Fred Armisen and Ana Fabrega, react to audience expectations. “I mean, basically the spirit that connects Fred, Ana, and I, well, we do what we want to do, what we like to do,” Torres told The Playlist. “And hopefully, someone connects with it, but we’re definitely not catering to an audience or pandering to the audience. And the show has so many asks from the audience.”
The series’ official synopsis:
