Got a Tip?

M. Night Shyamalan’s Secretive ‘The Visit’ Sets 2015 Date & Jessica Chastain’s ‘Miss Julie’ Coming In December

Miss JulieRemember when M. Night Shyamalan movies used to be an event? Well, after a long period of diminishing returns, it has been quite some time since the filmmaker stirred up that kind of fervor. But, Universal is hoping that by keeping his next movie sorta secret, it can build up some anticipation, and today they set a September 11, 2015 release date for—wait for it—"The Visit" (oooooooh).

So what’s it about? Well, it tells the terrifying story of a brother and sister who are sent to their grandparents’ remote Pennsylvania farm for a weeklong trip. Once the children discover that the elderly couple is involved in something deeply disturbing, they see their chances of getting back home grow smaller every day.

We’re pretty sure this is the same movie that was previously announced as "Sundowning" earlier this year, with Kathryn Hahn and child actor Ed Oxenbould in the lead roles. But at this point, Shyamalan is going to really have to bring the noise to get our attention.

Meanwhile, the Jessica Chastain and Colin Farrell starring "Miss Julie" will open in New York City on December 5th. Directed by Liv Ullman, this is an adaptation of the famed August Strindberg play. Here’s the official synopsis:

A country estate in Ireland in the 1880s. Over the course of one midsummer night, in an atmosphere of wild revelry and loosened social constraints, Miss Julie and John, her father’s valet, dance and drink, charm and manipulate each other. She, all hauteur longing for abasement; he, polished but coarse – united in mutual loathing and attraction.
By turns seductive and bullying, savage and tender, their intimacy leads to desperate plans and vision of a life together…Unsure if the morning brings hope or hopelessness, Julie and John find their escape in a final act as sublime and horrific as anything in Greek tragedy.
Miss Julie depicts a fierce battle for power and dominance, enacted through a cruel and compulsive game of seduction and repulsion.

This is one we dug a lot out of TIFF, calling it "unforgettable in every sense of the word." So watch out for this one…
