'Mad Men' Star Rosemarie DeWitt Joins Ben Stiller & Vince Vaughn In 'Neighborhood Watch'

Anne Hathaway might have gotten most of the plaudits for Jonathan Demme‘s excellent “Rachel Getting Married” (and rightfully so), but the film was home to another terrific performance from an actress — Rosemarie DeWitt, who played the titular Rachel. De Witt is a long-time TV & film veteran, probably best known for her turn as Don Draper’s bohemian mistress Midge in “Mad Men,” and she’s deservedly gotten a boost from those two projects, landing parts in projects like “The United States of Tara,” “The Company Men” and next year’s “The Odd Life of Timothy Green.”

Now the actress is looking to join her highest-profile film to date, as Showblitz report that DeWitt is in talks to come aboard the Fox comedy “Neighborhood Watch,” joining the already-cast Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn. The film is a big-budget comedy about a group of suburban dads (including Stiller and Vaughn), who discover a plot to destroy the world, and DeWitt would play Stiller’s wife — hopefully a role less thankless than it usually is in this kind of film, considering her talents.

It’s the kind of expensive and potentially edgeless fare we’d normally run a mile from, but it does have some promising pedigree, seeing as the script is from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and that “Hot Rod” helmer and Lonely Island member Akiva Schaffer is directing. That said, the last time Rogen and Goldberg ventured into tentpole territory, we got “The Green Hornet,” so we still wouldn’t hold our breath. Filming will have to get underway soon, as it’s currently set to hit theaters on July 27, 2012, although considering that’s only a week after “The Dark Knight Rises,” don’t be surprised if it ends up moving to later in the year.
