If you ask me, using ABBA‘s already great songs for a musical is kind of cheat. But Universal didn’t ask me, and they did just fine with “Mamma Mia,” which earned $609 million worldwide a decade ago. Incidentally, that’s nearly $200 million more globally than the Best Picture-nominated “La La Land.” But then again, that movie didn’t have ABBA songs. Anyway, the sequel, “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” is on the way and it aims to get you up and dancing all over again.

Meryl Streep, Julie Walters, Christine Baranski, Amanda Seyfried, Dominic Cooper, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd and Colin Firth all reprise their roles, with Lily James, Alexa Davies, Jessica Keenan Wynn, Jeremy Irvine, Josh Dylan, Hugh Skinner, Andy Garcia, and Cher (!) joining the ensemble. Directed by Ol Parker (“Imagine Me & You“) the movie will essentially give audiences the backstory to all the characters we met last time around. For those that adore this world, it’s probably music to their ears.
“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” opens on July 20, 2018.
