'Manhunt': Lilly Wachowski To Adapt Gretchen Felker-Martin's Post-Apocalyptic Trans Novel For TV

Lilly Wachowski has another new project lined up, and it’s right up her alley. Dazed reports that the director will adapt Gretchen Felker-Martin‘s 2022 novel “Manhunt” for TV.  As of right now, it’s unclear where the project will land, but expect a streamer to pick it up as development continues.

For those unfamiliar with Felker-Martin’s novel, it’s sure to delight Wachowski acolytes and body horror fans alike. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, “Manhunt” follows two trans women as they survive a landscape littered with violent, testosterone-mutated men and TERFs. Is transitioning possible in such a world? Beth and Fran aim to beat the odds.

Felker-Martin confirmed Wachowski’s project on X last week, tweeting that she’s “proud” and “excited” to adapt her work for the small screen. “Manhunt,” her debut, was widely praised by critics and made several “best of” lists for the horror genre. Felker-Martin’s “Cuckoo” (not connected to Tilman Singer‘s recent eurohorror romp) was also published last year. Her third book, “Black Flame,” hits bookstores in 2025.

Meanwhile, Wachowski promises that her adaptation of “Manhunt” will be “kicking, screaming, and queer as hell.” And Felker-Martin’s work isn’t the only recent novel Lilly plans to adapt soon. Also in the pipeline for the filmmaker is Jordy Rosenberg‘s “Confessions Of A Fox” from 2018, a book-within-a-book narrative that reimagines 18th-century transgener thief Jack Sheppard and her partner as “a response to all of the horrible anti-trans stuff that’s going on in the world.” However, like “Manhunt,” there’s no word on when Wachowski will start shooting that adaptation either.

Whether Wachowski makes “Manhunt” and “Confessions Of A Fox” before the previously announced “Trash Mountain remains unclear. However, Lilly will sit out on Drew Goddard‘s upcoming “The Matrix 5 (which still has Lana Wachowski producing; Lana directed 2021’s “Resurrections” solo).
