Got a Tip?

Marc Webb Swings Back To Indies As Casts Come Together For ‘Gifted’ & ‘The Only Living Boy In New York’

nullAs we noted in our feature 12 Indie Directors Who Jumped To Blockbuster Budgets, not every filmmaker who makes the leap has the kind of "Jurassic World" success that Colin Trevorrow experienced this summer. Marc Webb had a rough time with critics and audiences with two "The Amazing Spider-Man" films, ultimately failing to launch a new franchise for Sony. The filmmaker, who broke out with "(500) Days Of Summer," is going back to the studio that first put him on the map for a new project, while reviving a new one at another division.

Webb will helm "Gifted" for Fox Searchlight with Captain America himself Chris Evans putting down the shield to star in the movie. Tom Flynn ("Watch It") has penned the script for that will find Evans playing a man battling for custody of his dead sister’s brilliant daughter.

Meanwhile, over at Fox 2000, the long brewing "The Only Living Boy In New York" is coming together. The long-attached Miles Teller is looking to be joined by Jeff Bridges and Rosamund Pike in the Allan Loeb ("Rock Of Ages," "Just Go With It," "The Dilemma") penned story following a recent college graduate whose life is upended when he learns his father has an affair, and things get more complicated when he falls for the mistress himself.

The plan is for "Gifted" to shoot this fall, with ‘New York’ to lens in 2016. So back-to-back movies from Webb? That’s some kind of superhero comeback. [THR/Deadline]
