Next year, we’ll finally see Martin Scorsese‘s passion project "Silence," but as per usual, the ever busy director has more than a handful of irons in the fire. And Paramount Pictures is getting behind the director, signing a deal with him through 2019, that if all goes well, will see a number of long developing movies finally realized.

THR reports that among the Paramount slate is "The Irishman," which Robert De Niro recently said will reunite him with the filmmaker next year. As you’ll recall, it’s a the Steve Zaillian ("Gangs Of New York," "Schindler’s List," "Moneyball") penned movie, adapted from the book "I Heard You Paint Houses" by Charles Brandt, that tells the true story of Frank Sheeran, a WWII veteran who led a colorful life as a high ranking officer in the International Brotherhood of Teamsters while also dabbling in organized crime as a highly-sought-after hitman, with rumored ties to the deaths of President Kennedy and Jimmy Hoffa. Al Pacino, Bobby Cannavale, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel have all been linked to roles but we’ll see what the final cast shapes out like.
Also in the works is the previously announced "The Devil In The White City" with Leonardo DiCaprio slated to star. Billy Ray ("Shattered Glass," "Captain Phillips") has penned the adaptation of Erik Larson‘s terrific book that tells true story of the depraved acts of a deadly serial killer as it plays out against the backdrop of the 1893 Chicago’s World Fair. And it would seem that Scorsese is really digging this true story vibe, as he’s also got a new biopic developing.
The director is also working on a biopic of celebrated composer Leonard Bernstein. Josh Singer ("Spotlight") will write the script, but otherwise there’s no other details, but it’s an intriguing one to keep an eye on.
So it looks like Scorsese has a studio home and lots of material to work on, and that’s great news for cinephiles.
