Director Josh Safdie‘s (“Uncut Gems,” “Good Times”) next feature film effort, “Marty Supreme,” sees the filmmaker linking up with recent Oscar-nominee Timothée Chalamet (“A Complete Unknown”) and Oscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow (“Contagion”), the latter hasn’t done a lot of major work outside of Marvel movies (a self-imposed absence from big roles for the last 15 years) and in a new interview is singing the praises of her young leading man in the pic focusing on Ping-Pong hustler, Marty Reisman.
“He’s such a thinking man’s sex symbol,” Paltrow said of her co-star Chalamet in a new extensive profile from Vanity Fair. “He’s just a very polite, properly raised, I was going to say kid,” but Paltrow corrected herself. “He’s a man who takes his work really seriously and is a fun partner.”

Calling Chalament a “sex symbol” might have to do with the two shooting plenty of onscreen sex scenes (they were spotted making out on set) in the film.
“I mean, we have a lot of sex in this movie. There’s a lot — a lot.”
Speaking of sex, Paltrow wasn’t exactly aware of what an intimacy coordinator does after decades without them being on sets and them being more of a modern concept.
“There’s now something called an intimacy coordinator, which I did not know existed,” Paltrow said of something new experienced while shooting “Marty Supreme.” When the film’s intimacy coordinator asked Paltrow if she’d be okay with a particular move she said, “I was like, ‘Girl, I’m from the era where you get naked, you get in bed, the camera’s on.’ ”
Paltrow also revealed that she isn’t as plugged in with the industry as you might think after stepping away from doing projects on a regular basis and cites her brother Jake Paltrow for helping her get into the work of The Sadifes, also, landing the gig.
“She’s a movie star. I say that in the cosmic sense. She’s got a gravitational pull that only a camera can depict,” Safdie told VF, praising his lead actress. “I think her absence from acting has lent a vulnerability to her abilities.”
The rest of the supporting cast of “Marty Supreme” features Tyler The Creator, Fran Drescher, Abel Ferrara, Kevin O’Leary, Sandra Bernhard, Odessa A’zion, Spenser Granese, and magician/actor Penn Jillette.
We’ll be excited to see A24 release some official photos and a trailer, but we might have to be patient as the film’s official release date isn’t until December 25, 2025 (a prime spot for an awards consideration) and the studio is downplaying a rumored debut at the Venice Film Festival.
