'Masters Of The Universe': Nicholas Galitzine Cast As He-Man In Travis Knight's Fantasy Film

The development of the “Masters of the Universe” film has been a rollercoaster, to say the least. Originally, the film was expected to be on Netflix. In fact, during that time, two young actors came and went from the lead role. Then the film was canceled, but eventually revived over at Amazon. Now, it appears we have yet another young actor taking the lead for this new version of the fantasy film.

According to a Prime Video press release, actor Nicholas Galitzine has been cast as Prince Adam, aka He-Man, in director Travis Knight’s “Masters of the Universe.” The actor is probably best known for his recent rom-com “The Idea of You,” alongside Anne Hathaway, which was recently released on streaming.

For those unfamiliar with “Masters of the Universe,” the film follows the story of Prince Adam, who uses a magical sword to turn into He-Man and battle Skeletor and his various villainous compadres. If it all sounds a bit silly, it most definitely is. You probably wouldn’t be shocked to know the original ‘80s cartoon existed primarily as a way to sell toys to children.

As mentioned, this film has been in development for years. A previous film, also titled “Masters of the Universe,” was released in the ‘80s, but that film failed to do well at the box office, and the franchise was quickly shelved. However, in the 2020s, you can’t go wrong with franchise films, and studios are eager to get as many franchises going as possible. Thus, another attempt at a “Masters of the Universe” film.

“Masters of the Universe” is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 5, 2026.
