It’s fair to say that “The Matrix” franchise didn’t exactly end on a high note. When “The Matrix” blew minds in 1999, fans were dying to see what The Wachowskis would do next with the franchise. Then “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions” were released and most fans just asked, “Why?”
The truth is, the filmmaking duo should have left “The Matrix” alone after their first film. Unfortunately, they produced two sequels that forever changed the way people look at the franchise. And with that being said, we’d like to draw your attention to writer Zak Penn, who is doing everything in his power to reboot “The Matrix.”
Rumors have swirled that Warner Bros. was interested in exploring a new direction for the sci-fi franchise, with actor Michael B. Jordan’s name thrown in the mix. However, since the rumors, nothing has been confirmed, and the news has slowed down. But it looks like Penn is fighting the good fight, and still trying to get “The Matrix” back on the big screen.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Zak Penn, who recently wrote “Ready Player One,” talked about the long-rumored ‘Matrix’ reboot:
“I’ve been working on ‘Matrix’ right now. Which is in…a phase right now. That’s a franchise I desperately want to see brought back and, I can’t go in to too much detail, but I’ve been harassing Warner Bros. for years to try to get it going again so that’s one thing I’m working on and I’ve been working on a bunch of other things too.”
Again, the question that pops into mind after reading that quote is, “Why?” Why do we want to bring back a franchise that, in many people’s minds, overstayed its welcome long ago? Other than for money purposes, is there a solid reason to bring back “The Matrix?” Do we need another Zion dance party rave scene? Okay, well maybe. But still, if there was ever a franchise that is an example of something that should be left alone, it’s “The Matrix.”
Apparently, Penn has a story in mind and is “desperately” wanting to see the franchise brought back. When, or if, that will ever happen is still anyone’s guess.
