Though Ti West has been making films for years now, it’s quite obvious that 2022 was by far the biggest year of his career. Not only did he release the acclaimed slasher, “X,” but he quickly followed that up with the prequel, “Pearl,” which might actually be the better of the two films. That back-to-back success story has made West, and his leading lady, Mia Goth, household names. Now, the duo is hard at work on the third film in the horror trilogy, “MaXXXine,” which was recently teased by Goth in a new interview.
Speaking to Variety, while promoting her upcoming film, “Infinity Pool,” by director Brandon Cronenberg, Mia Goth talked about what fans might expect with “MaXXXine,” the third and final film in the “X” trilogy. And from the sound of it, it appears filmmaker Ti West and Goth, who have co-written the films, are going out with the biggest bang yet.

“It’s the best script of the three by far. It’s going be the best movie of the three. We’re all so tight now,” said Goth. “This is going to be our third movie we’re working on together and everyone’s coming back together, so it’s bringing the band all back together again. We just have a shorthand with each other. We know how everybody works and we’re all so excited. It’s the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes and Maxine has gone through so much at this point. So when we find her in this new world, she’s just a force to be reckoned with and she goes through some pretty wild adventures.”
As for the current status of the film, Goth teased that “MaXXXine” will definitely film this year.
“Yeah, I’m in prep with the script, doing my homework, getting everything ready,” she explained. “Then you let it all go once you get to set and just hope that some magic comes from it.”
Not much is really known about “MaXXXine.” As the title suggests, the film is set to be a sequel to “X” and follows the story of Goth’s Maxine, the survivor of that film. And judging by the little teaser for the third film we’ve already gotten, the film will take place in the ‘80s (each of the films has been in a very distinct time period) and will focus on the character’s career in the adult film business, which started in “X.”
A release date for “MaXXXine” has yet to be announced, but depending on when filming will commence, you have to assume it could arrive before the end of the year, if not early 2024.
