Got a Tip?

‘MaXXXine’ Teaser Trailer: Ti West Reveals Surprise Third Film In His ‘X’ Trilogy

Ti West is about to complete the quickest trilogy in horror history. Back in March, the filmmaker released “X,” a ‘Texas Chainsaw’-esque slasher set in the ‘70s and following a porno film crew as they are dispatched one by one. But to the surprise of fans everywhere, the film ended with a reveal of a teaser for a prequel film, “Pearl,” that follows one of the characters years before. And wouldn’t you know it? On the verge of “Pearl’s” release, following its debut at this year’s Venice Film Festival, Ti West unveiled a teaser for an “X” sequel, titled “MaXXXine.”

Unfortunately, the teaser for “MaXXXine,” doesn’t do much other than showcasing the title and the era in which it’ll be set. It’s clear the film is going to follow Maxine, played by Mia Goth (making her return to the franchise for the third time), as she recovers from the end of “X” and tries to make an acting career happen in the 1980s.

Here’s the vague synopsis:

The film follows Maxine (Goth), after the events of X, as the sole survivor who continues her journey towards fame setting out to make it as an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.

While most fans and critics have yet to see “Pearl,” the acclaim that came after the release of “X” has made Ti West’s franchise one of the most anticipated in the horror genre. At least in “X,” he was able to mix style and scares in a fairly simple premise that worked exceptionally well. “Pearl” seems to copy that same M.O. with another period slasher with heaps of visual treats. So, there’s no doubt that “MaXXXine” will continue that trend.

A release date for “MaXXXine” has yet to be released, but it would appear that production has yet to begin, so we’ll have to wait more than six months most likely. Alas, if you want to see the second installment in the “X” franchise, “Pearl” is hitting theaters on September 16.
