‘Stranger Things’ Star Maya Hawke Is A Space Cowboy Angel In New Music Video

After a surprising breakout performance in season 3 of “Stranger Things” and a small but memorable role in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,” Maya Hawke is now leaning into her musical talents with the upcoming release of her full-length debut album, titled “Blush.” In anticipation of the album’s release, the actress/singer has released a music video for her new single, called “By Myself.”

The music video, directed by Amanda Kramer, seems like it was made specifically for these self-isolation times that we live in. Featuring Hawke completely isolated and no longer on Earth, surrounded by stars in the vacuum of space as she sings lyrics addressed to her. Hawke alternates between western, angelic and royal outfits, sometimes all at the same time, in a visually stunning video aided by a nuanced but equally impressive performance by Hawke, which adds to the ethereal feel of both the song and the video.

In an interview NME, Hawke talked about the lyrics to “By Myself,” saying “Every verse is addressed to myself cos I wanna improve myself and be a better person and treat myself – and other people – with more respect and kindness.” Likewise, in a press release, Hawke described her debut album as “a collection of secret messages, hidden communications with the people in my life,” the actress and singer said. “‘By Myself’ was a secret message to myself, that I hope I’ll receive someday soon.”

This isn’t the first time Hawke has released an ethereal music video featuring herself in different outfits, as her previous video for her song “To Love a Boy” features visuals of herself as a mermaid. So we’re just going to sit back and let fans figure out whether the songs or music videos hide any hints for the upcoming season 4 of “Stranger Things.”
