Former metal giants, and now aging rock ‘n roll dudes Metallica, have been on the wrong end of many decisions in the past while. If you’re had the misfortune of hearing their forthcoming collaboration with Lou Reed, you’ll know exactly what we mean. Or just look above at their ridiculous poses for the “Guitar Hero: Metallica,” something these dudes wouldn’t have even considered when their hair was longer and their tunes more badass. Or hell, even Lars Ulrich admitted recently he didn’t get Quentin Tarantino‘s “Kill Bill” and never followed up with the director when he asked to use their music for fight scenes in the movie. Although, that probably worked out for the best.
So with all that in mind, get ready for your eyeballs to be put to the test by these guys because Metallica are looking to self-finance a 3D movie. Oh, great. These guys haven’t had a good idea in years and now they’re gonna take their diminished sense of what is awesome to the big screen. And if you think we’re being unduly harsh, the dudes have hired producer Charlotte Huggins — of such 3D cinematic achievements as “Journey to the Center of the Earth” and “Wild Safari 3D” — to help find a director who is capable of handing the undoubtedly vast vision that these four guys want to share with the world. We can’t wait.
Will it be a Beiber-esque 3D experience? A haunting journey in the wrinkles of Lou Reed’s face with a Metallica powered soundtrack? Or something else entirely? Who knows, but maybe it’s time for these guys to get in touch with their therapist again. Although, he helped them get across the finish line to make the limp St. Anger, so maybe not. [Deadline]
