One of the many reasons studios like branded entertainment is that it provides more opportunities for marketing outside of the traditional cycle. And so, 20th Century Fox used the E3 technology conference to help boost the Ubisoft co-produced video game adaptation “Assassin’s Creed.” For those of us who haven’t mashed the buttons of the franchise, this featurette is essentially a primer on what it’s all about, with star Michael Fassbender and director Justin Kurzel guiding the conversation.
It’s a smart move by the studio and video game maker who, especially after watching Universal and Blizzard Entertainment‘s “Warcraft” tank at home, realize more than ever they can’t just sit back and hope the gaming crowd will show up. They’ll have to earn that four-quadrant appeal, and here they hype the unique concept, the action setpieces, and the top level cast which includes Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, and Michael K. Williams.
“Assassin’s Creed” opens on December 21st.
