Michael Fassbender Says The Filmmakers Have Mapped Out An 'Assassin's Creed' Trilogy

Hit video games rarely make hit movies, and 20th Century Fox looks poised to learn that lesson the hard way with “Assassin’s Creed.” The film is riding into theaters today with an absolutely dreadful 20% Rotten Tomatoes score, and with stiff competition at the multiplex, it has a big road to travel to become a hit. But should the film buck expectations and somehow manage to become a success, Michael Fassbender reveals that plans are already drawn up for more adventures involving his character of Callum Lynch.

“This is the sort of origin of his story. We have an idea of where he’s going to go over the next two films. We kind of did a three-film arc. We’ll wait and see how people respond to this, but for sure, we have an idea of where he’s going to go next,” he told Cinema Blend.

I don’t really know what to say except….good luck with that? I can only imagine that 20th Century Fox can’t believe they fudged yet another potential franchise following this year’s “Independence Day: Resurgence” and “X-Men: Apocalypse,” and that’s not to mention last year’s “Fantastic Four.” Maybe audiences will ignore critics and this will be a hit nevertheless, but I wouldn’t count on it, especially given the big multiplex competition this holiday season.

But given how Hollywood works, I’m sure they’ll reboot the property in a few years anyway.
