Got a Tip?

Michael K. Williams Boots Up To ‘RoboCop’

nullAfter making his name on the wrong end of the law on TV with acclaimed shows like "The Wire" and "Boardwalk Empire," the always awesome Michael K. Williams is ready to fight for the good guys in a major summer tentpole.

The actor is lining up to play Joel Kinnaman's sidekick in MGM's "RoboCop" reboot. Let us just rephrase that: Joel Kinnaman and Michael K. Williams are going to be buddy cops (kind of). Awesome. The movie, which is amassing a helluva cast and is quickly diminishing our reservations about this one, will reconfigure the Paul Verhoeven original and find Williams playing a family friend and partner of Alex Murphy. He'll be joining an impressive ensemble that includes Hugh Laurie, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Jay Baruchel, Abbie Cornish and Jackie Earle Haley. Not too shabby at all. And if this means Williams get some more mainstream exposure, hell, that's just fine by us.

"Elite Squad" helmer Jose Padilha is sitting in the director's chair for the movie will kick off lensing in September and hit theaters on August 9, 2013. [THR]
