It’s almost been a joke for a few years now, but apparently, the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise has run out of ridiculous things to do on Earth and is now taking its action hijinks into space in the upcoming sequel, “F9.”
The fact that “F9” will send Dom (Vin Diesel) and his crew to space in the long-delayed sequel (now set for a 2021 release) was revealed during an interview with the Jess Cagle Show on SiriusXM. The folks there were interviewing Michelle Rodriguez and caught her off guard with a question about what is being rumored for ‘F9.” When Rodriguez was asked if she’d be joining her cast members in space, which has been heavily rumored since the film was in development, the actress did confirm some of the crew will be headed into orbit, but she’s not one of them.

“Oh, no way! How did you guys find that out? Damn! See what happens? People start talking behind the scenes, man,” Rodriguez said. “When a movie doesn’t come out and forget about it, things get out. Nobody was supposed to know that.”
She continued, “Oh, well, no, I’m not lucky enough to hit space, but we did get a female writer and showed a lot of love, I think, on this one. Thanks to [director] Justin Lin. We were able to find a little bit more attention and love for the girls in the movie. And so I’m really hopeful that shows through in the final product.”
When the trailer for “F9” was released earlier this year (in a pre-pandemic world), people were worried that there was actually too much footage shown. The trailer clocks in at damn-near four minutes in length and had everything from a sibling reveal to a scene where Dom and Letty drive a car off a cliff and snag a hook with their car mid-air. Fans were concerned that the tease might have revealed all the best stuff from the sequel. But little did we know that the film was actually going to send the cast into space.
“F9” is now scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 2, 2021.
