In a world without COVID-19, we’d be anxiously awaiting the upcoming sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick.” Instead of seeing that movie this summer, we now have to wait for the sequel in December, which means it’ll be several months before we see what Miles Teller brings to the Tom Cruise-led franchise. In the meantime, it appears that Teller is ready to develop his next feature, a boating drama inspired by tragic real-life events, titled “Not Without Hope.”
According to THR, Teller is signed on to star in the new film, “Not Without Hope,” based on the book of the same name about a group of guys that go out on a boating trip in the Gulf of Mexico but end up stuck in a violent storm that results in the deaths of most of the men. The film is based on the real-life story about NFL players Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith and their friends Will Bleakley and Nick Schuyler. In the film, Teller will play Schuyler.
The film is set to be directed by Rupert Wainwright. The filmmaker is probably best known for helming films such as “The Fog” and “Stigmata.” “Not Without Hope” marks the director’s first feature film since the aforementioned “The Fog” in 2005. NFL player Russell Wilson and his partner Ciara are executive producing.
Teller is probably best known for his work in the Oscar-winning feature, “Whiplash.” Most recently, however, he’s appeared in films such as “Only the Brave,” “Thank You For Your Service,” and “Bleed for This.”
There’s no release date set for “Not Without Hope” and it’s unclear when the film might go into production. The project is currently at the Virtual Market in Cannes looking for distribution.
