Got a Tip?

Morena Baccarin Doesn’t Know If She’ll Be Back For ‘Deadpool 3’: “We Have Not Agreed To Terms”

Deadpool 3” marks the entrance of the Merc With A Mouth into the MCU. It also sees Ryan Reynold‘s Deadpool join up with Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine, who’s also in the MCU for the first time. But what about Morena Baccarin‘s Vanessa, the love of Deadpool’s life? Deadline reports that even Baccarin doesn’t know her involvement in the upcoming film at this point, even though she’s discussed the project with studios.

Baccarin discussed “Deadpool 3” on a recent episode of the “Inside Of You” podcast. ““Yeah, what is up with “Deadpool 3”? That’s a really good question,” the actress said. “I have to be very diplomatic about what I say here. I’d like to be in it. They have called me about being in it. Right now, we have not agreed on terms, and everybody’s trying their best, and doing their best. But it may or may not work out. I don’t know.”

If one reads between the lines here, it sounds like Baccarin may be in dispute over her pay for the upcoming film, and she’s being (rightly) discreet about that reason. And that makes sense, given how crucial she is to the first two “Deadpool” movies. But does Vanessa remain an integral part of the franchise after Marvel takes over the franchise’s reins? “I’d like to think so,” continued Baccarin. “I do think that this movie, since the acquirement of this Deadpool universe by Marvel/Disney, that merger that happened, I do feel like they’re trying to reinvent it a little bit. I think this movie is going to be much more about Wolverine and Deadpool.” But Baccarin added that Jackson’s returning as Wolverine for the first time since 2017’s “Logan” should be fun: “I’m sure he’ll be great.”

In “Deadpool,” Baccarin’s Vanessa is an escort Wade Wilson/Deadshot falls in love with before the disfiguring science experiment Wilson undergoes gives him immortality. But Vanessa gets killed off early in “Deadpool 2,” only for Deadpool to time-travel and prevent her murder in a mid-credits sequence. So, feasibly, Baccarin may return for “Deadpool 3” because Vanessa is still alive. But again, that may or may not happen.

So who is confirmed to return for “Deadpool 3”? Just Karan Soni and Leslie Uggams, who play Deadpool’s cab driver Dopinder and his blind roommate, Al, respectively. Newcomers to the franchise include Emma Corrin and Matthew McFadyen, but expect more casting news for the film soon.

Shawn Levy directs from a script by returning scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese that they pen with Zeb Wells. Reynolds, Levy, and Kevin Feige serve as producers on the film.

As for a release date? “Deadpool 3” hits theaters on November 8, 2024; so quite a ways away, but plenty of time for Bacarrin to hopefully finalize terms to be part of the film.
