Well, so much for that Angelia Jolie rumor (and don’t put money on her to direct "Captain Marvel" either, which never really fit, given the kinds of films she likes to make anyhow): Michelle MacLaren may have left Warner Bros.‘ “Wonder Woman” over “creative differences,” but another female filmmaker has been found as a replacement. WB has tapped Patty Jenkins, the filmmaker behind the Oscar-winning “Monster,” starring Charlize Theron.
Ironically, Jenkins fell out of her own superhero project over “creative differences” two years ago. She was first pegged as the director to helm “Thor: The Dark World,” supposedly picked and/or encouraged by Natalie Portman. But Jenkins butted heads with Marvel and left the project (“Game Of Thrones” helmer Alan Taylor eventually took the gig).

So if “Wonder Woman” hit a bump with MacLaren’s exit, it appears WB has smoothed it over with lightning precision, finding another female filmmaker to boot. Over the years, Jenkins directed episodes of "Arrested Development" and "Entourage," but she landed "Thor," no doubt, because of the phenomenal work she crafted for the pilot episode of "The Killing," for which she was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series. Jenkins should have won that award, and if “The Killing” never lived up to its expectations, it’s in part because almost nothing could compare with how well that pilot episode was shot.
Gal Gadot is set to play "Wonder Woman," and the movie is already slotted for a June 23, 2017 release. [THR]
