More New 'Man Of Steel' Photos Show Off Young Clark, Baby Superman And Actor Identity Of "Jimmy" Olsen

Zack Snyder takes Superman very seriously.  “In the comic-book universe, you have all these sort of minor celebrities that have been put up as the end-all, be-all,” Snyder told Hero Complex recently, throwing some shade at movies that have featured lesser heroes like Green Lantern, Ghost Rider and the Punisher among others. “And then you have the fallen king who’s sadly relegated to the shadows. It’s cool to resurrect him and say, ‘Understand that this is the granddaddy of all superheroes.’”

That’s fighting talk, especially given the grosses for “Iron Man 3,” but Snyder has every reason to be confident at this point; the buzz on “Man Of Steel,” is becoming increasingly deafening, to the point where we imagine Warner Bros. are keen for people to lower their expectations, for fear of being disappointed when the finished movie doesn’t cure cancer or grow limbs back. But with less than a month to go until the film hits theaters, they’re hardly going to ease off on the marketing, and a brace of new images have arrived from various sources.

Most are fairly standard shots of Henry Cavill as Superman (and his infant and pre-teen equivalents), plus glimpses of his parents (Russell Crowe and Ayelet Zurer, plus Diane Lane as his adoptive ma), and adversaries, in the shape of Antje Traue‘s Faora. But at least one of the film’s secrets has been spoiled here. Did you notice unusually lingering shots of a young woman in the trailers to date, as accompanied by Laurence Fishburne‘s Daily Planet editor Perry White? Well, as rumored, and confirmed by a photo caption, that’s actress Rebecca Buller (whose only credit to date is on an episode of the short-lived “The Playboy Club“) as ‘Jenny Olsen.’ That’s right, Clark Kent’s faithful boy reporter pal is now a young woman. Fanboy outrage in 3… 2… 1…

It seems like a perfectly fine decision to us, so long as Buller is up to the job, and given the strength of casting elsewhere, we imagine that’ll be the case. We’ll find out how important she is to the plot when “Man Of Steel” hits on June 14th.
