'Mother, Couch' Trailer: Ewan McGregor, Ellen Burstyn & More Star In Niclas Larsson's Family Drama

Just when you think you’ve seen just about every setup for a family drama ever, a film like “Mother, Couch” comes out and introduces yet another.

As seen in the trailer for “Mother, Couch,” the film tells the story of an elderly woman who decides she’s not going to get up from a couch she’s sitting on in the middle of a furniture showroom. Her reluctance to remove herself from the couch brings together her three estranged children, as they have to decide a plan to get their mom off the furniture and out of the store. Family drama ensues.

The film stars Ewan McGregor, Ellen Burstyn, Taylor Russell, Lara Flynn Boyle, Rhys Ifans, Lake Bell, and F. Murray Abraham. “Mother, Couch” is written and directed by Niclas Larsson, who is making his directorial debut with the film.

Here’s the synopsis:

The members of a dysfunctional family find themselves mysteriously trapped in an antiquated furniture store when their elderly matriarch (Ellen Burstyn) suddenly refuses to get up from one of the display couches. Reluctantly assembled, her three estranged children – David (Ewan McGregor), Gruffudd (Rhys Ifans), and Linda (Lara Flynn Boyle) – must figure out how to escape this bizarre predicament. With the help of the store managers, Marco & Marcus (F. Murray Abraham), and their daughter Bella (Taylor Russell) the siblings embark on a mind-bending odyssey that forces them to face life-altering truths about their own lives and upbringing.
