Netflix is notorious for not releasing viewing statistics for its content. Hell, even when the streaming service releases films in cinemas, it never tells you how much they earned at the box office. So, when Netflix decides to unveil its Best of 2018 lists, you know these categories aren’t going to be your typical rankings. However, even though the service won’t rank its favorite or most-watched films of the year, Netflix does give a pretty good overview of what its subscribers like most in 2018.
Instead of giving the most-watched films of 2018, Netflix has decided to release a short list of the three films that they say are “Movies We Fell In Love With.” What exactly constitutes a film that viewers fell in love with? Apparently, the three films listed are the most rewatched films of the year. And no, you won’t expect recent major releases like “Private Life,” “22 July,” “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,” or “Apostle.” According to the streaming service the most-loved films are “The Kissing Booth,” “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” and “Roxanne Roxanne.”

Perhaps most surprising of all is the fact that Netflix says the first two films, ‘Kissing Booth’ and ‘To All the Boys’ were rewatched by nearly 50% of viewers. That’s truly impressive, especially considering the cost of these films relative to the aforementioned higher-profile original films.
On the TV side of things, Netflix compiled a similar list of “The Shows We Fell in Binge with This Year,” which as the name suggests, covers the most-binged series of 2018. The #1 show isn’t probably one that you would immediately think of, however. “On My Block,” the diverse teen drama, ranks at the top of the list, followed by “Making a Murderer: Part 2” and “13 Reasons Why: Season 2.” Other surprises on the list include #4 with “Last Chance U” and #9 “Insatiable.” The latter of which received some intense backlash upon release, due to its alleged body-shaming message.
And last, but not least, Netflix wants to shout out “The Stars We Fell in Love with This Year.” This list is interesting, as it doesn’t use any Netflix-generated stats, instead focusing on the Instagram growth of some of the stars of the service’s original content. Leading the way are The Fab Five from “Queer Eye.” Surprising us are the numbers 4 thru 6 stars Miguel Herrán, Jaime Lorente Lopez, and Maria Pedraza from the original series “Elite,” showing the international reach of the streaming service.
