The first season of “Wednesday” is the most popular English-language TV (and only trails “Squid Game” overall) in the history of Netflix. It’s safe to say that no one ever expected this “Addams Family” reimagining to be nearly as popular as it is. So, as you might expect, as Netflix looks forward to Season 2 beginning production in 2024, the streamer is already planning how to spin off the massive series.
According to Bloomberg, Netflix is in the early stages of development on a “Wednesday” spinoff show that would follow the story of Uncle Fester, played by Fred Armisen in the original series. As of now, there are no scripts written, no finalized deals, and no schedule in place to make it happen, but the streamer is really hoping to make this happen.

As mentioned, “Wednesday” is a reimagining of the “Addams Family” franchise that focuses, unsurprisingly, on Wednesday Addams and her experiences at a boarding school full of supernatural students. It’s unclear what an “Uncle Fester” show (if it’s not called “Fester,” then they’re overcomplicating things) would look like. Armisen is an accomplished comedic actor, so you know it’ll be funny, but where do we go with the character in this universe? That’s for the writers to figure out, I suppose.
Again, it’s not at all shocking to know Netflix is hoping to make a spinoff of “Wednesday.” The really shocking thing would be if they don’t try to make a million spinoffs. Netflix is in the business of getting subs and retaining the subs it already has, and the best way to do that is to capitalize on a show that has literally (according to Netflix) been viewed more than 252 million times. It would be negligent, as a business, to avoid that.
Obviously, we don’t have any sort of idea about when we might see the Uncle Fester show. You have to assume it’ll be a top priority over at Netflix, so don’t be surprised if things move fast.
