As the sole MCU release in theaters for 2024, “Deadpool & Wolverine” marks a critical moment for Marvel Studios. It’s the first glimpse of the X-Men (or at least an X-man) in the live-action MCU. And as Deadpool’s intro into the long-running franchise, it’s the first MCU film with a hard R-rating. But also, there’s how much hinges on Shawn Levy’s film’s success (or failure): the MCU’s future, how Kevin Feige will operate future Phases, and whether the franchise is officially on the decline.
Marvel fans will get answers to all that soon enough. But make no mistake: there will be enough in-jokes, cameos, and general fan service in “Deadpool & Wolverine” to ensure it makes money in a dismal 2024 box office. Don’t believe that? Here’s confirmation that a Wolverine villain many expected to show up in Levy’s film indeed shows up for a cameo: Tyler Mane‘s Sabertooth. The new TV spot for “Deadpool & Wolverine” showcases Mane and Hugh Jackman squaring off with Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool on the sidelines. Will that be the only time Sabertooth shows up in the new film? Unclear, but if Mane is in the movie, expect other mutants from the Fox “X-Men” films to show up, too.
Watch the new TV spot for “Deadpool & Wolverine” below, but first, read the official synopsis for the film, courtesy of Marvel Studios:
Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date–“Deadpool & Wolverine.” A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier? Reluctantest? He must convince Wolverine to–F*ck. Synopses are so f*cking stupid.
The synopsis above should indicate that Reynolds’ trademark sophomoric humor will be all over this one. Along with Reynolds, Jackman, and Mane “Deadpool & Wolverine” also stars Emma Corrin, Matthew McFadyen, Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapičić, Shioli Kitsuna, and Lewis Tan. Other cameos include Jennifer Garner, Chris Hemsworth, Roy McElhenney, and more.
So which other mutants from the Fox “X-Men” catalog will make an appearance in “Deadpool & Wolverine” besides Sabertooth? Find out when the film hits theaters on July 26. Watch the new TV spot for the film below.
