Throughout the last decade-plus, movie audiences have tasted all sorts of different adaptations: video games, book-to-film, comic books, and the like. But a more uncommon adaption formula is the board game movie. Sure, there’s Peter Berg’s 2012 “Battleship” film and the 1985 comedy “Clue,” but few click with audiences. However, that may change when the duo behind the critically acclaimed “Game Night” brings “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” to Austin for its world premiere at SXSW next month.
The action-fantasy blockbuster stars Chris Pine, Sophia Lillis, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, and Justice Smith as a band of misfits who embark on a journey to find an ancient lost relic. However, things often don’t go their way on their epic travels. Case in point comes in a new international trailer and a new clip from the film, where Pine and company need to awaken a corpse for interrogation, and things don’t exactly go according to plan. Take a look at the clip below.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein co-direct “Honor Among Thieves” from a script they co-pen with Michael Gilio. Outside the main cast above, the film also stars Sophia Lillis, Hugh Grant, and Daisy Head. Chloe Coleman, Jason Wong, and Rylan Jackson round out the main cast.
After its world premiere at SXSW on March 10, “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” hits theaters on March 31st, 2023. Will this be a board game adaptation that connects with audiences? The brief sneak peek and new international trailer.
