It would appear as if Milla Jovovich and Kate Beckinsale have created some sort of cinematic tag team of women in tight leather outfits battling supernatural forces at the megaplex. After Beckinsale knocks out her requisite “Underworld” film every couple years, Jovovich seems to follow suit and star in another installment of the “Resident Evil” series (and vice versa). It’s a wonder why their shared studio Screen Gems hasn’t thought to pair the two together for ass-kicking adventures, but for now we’ll have to settle for the upcoming “Resident Evil: Retribution,” which will see Jovovich return to the role of Alice for the fifth installment of the popular series.
A few images and a new international poster have hit the web, proving that fans of the series are in for more of what they love. The images show Jovovich looking rather imposing as usual, standing over a pile of dead guys after what we suppose was an intense melee. The second image shows Jovovich strolling down the street with actress Li Bingbing, who will be playing the role of Ada Wong – a fan favorite who will be making her first feature appearance here. Curiously enough, Sony and Screen Gems have seemed to reuse the very artwork conceit they employed on the “Underworld” Legacy Collection of all four films, with the international poster for 'Retribution' showing Jovovich shot from behind as she stares at her perilous world. Though the werewolves of “Underworld” have now been replaced by the post-apocalyptic remains of New York City, London, and Moscow, with “Terminator”-like aircrafts soaring through the air. The horror!
The fifth installment will see Jovovich’s beau Paul W.S. Anderson return to the writer-director capacity, with Alice fighting alongside a new resistance movement in the ongoing battle against the evil Umbrella Corporation and the undead creatures they’ve produced. Sounds like the plot for every “Resident Evil” film so far, but fans will have to wait and find out what’s in store when the film is released on September 14th. The trailer arrives on Thursday, in case you care. [Kinopoisk/RecentMoviePosters]
