Got a Tip?

New Images Of Bolivar Trask & Mystique In ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past,’ Bryan Singer Calls Film “Inbetweenquel”

X-Men Days Of Future Past Peter Dinklage

You would think given how much continues to pour out of the “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” mill that the movie was coming out in a month and not next year, but especially given how limply “The Wolverine” performed at home, we suppose we can understand Fox putting all their muscle behind the flick. After all, it’s the granddaddy of their superhero movies, the cash cow they hope will keep minting money and making fanboys happy, and they are literally putting as much as they can into the next effort (seriously, name an X-Men character who isn’t in ‘First Class’). And so today comes a couple new looks at the movie.

Up top you’ll get another peek at Peter Dinklage as Bolivar Trask, the man who creates the Sentinel robot program to protect humans from those wily, unpredictable mutants. And down below is (kind of) Mystique (her leg anyway) laying waste to some random extra (via ComingSoon). Hooray. But really, how does all of this fit into the greater scheme of the X-Men movie universe? Well, here’s director Bryan Singer to explain. “It’s its own story, inspired by [the comic] ‘Days Of Future Past,’ ” the director told Empire

“I’d say it’s not a sequel to one of the others,”Singer added. “It’s an inbetwequel—that’s what I call it, for lack of a better word. It takes place about ten years, give or take, after ‘X-Men: The Last Stand‘; and in the past it takes place about ten years after ‘First Class.’ ” Got that?

Still much more to come. ‘Future Past’ opens in the future on May 23, 2014.
