Got a Tip?

New Paul Schrader, Pablo Larrain, Laura Poitras Films Headline Cannes Directors’ Fortnight Line-Up

null

The Cannes Film Festival isn’t just the main line-up, which is always impressive enough as it is. There’s also the Cannes Critics Week line-up, and now the Director’s Fortnight sidebar has been revealed. La Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, as it’s known in French, is usually a place for discovery titles and up-and-coming filmmakers, Ben Wheatley’s “Sightseers,” Jeremy Saulnier’s “Green Room,” and Miguel Gomes’ “Arabian Nights” all debuted in this section.

This year some of the key directors are a bit more established. The closing night film will be Paul Schrader’s latest noir-ish “Dog Eat Dog” starring Nicolas Cage, Willem Dafoe and Louisa Krause. The sidebar also includes new films from Alejandro Jodorowsky (“Endless Poetry”), Pablo Larraín (“Neruda”) and "Citizenfour" documentarian Laura Poitras (“Risk”).

Other filmmakers of note include Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio, Belgium’s Joachim Lafosse and Kim Nguyen, the Canadian filmmaker behind Academy-Award-nominated 2012 film, “War Witch.” Full line-up below.
