David Tennant (“Doctor Who”) and Sarah Harding (Girls Aloud) have joined the cast of “St. Trinians II,” sequel to the remake of a 1957 film of the same name. The sequel will find pupils and staff of the anarchic girls’ school engaging in a hunt for treasure and a battle against a women-hating secret society. The likes of Rupert Everett, Colin Firth, Gemma Arterton and Juno Temple are already on board. [Variety]
This makes a lot of sense but that still doesn’t make it right: Patrick Dempsey and Eric Dane, better known as McSteamy and McDreamy on “Grey’s Anatomy” have joined the cast of the spiritual sequel to “He’s Just Not That Into You,” “Valentine’s Day.” The film will follows five slightly interconnecting stories playing out in Los Angeles during Valentine’s Day and stars everyone you’d imagine would star in a cash-cow rom-com. The film comes out Valentine’s Day next year. [THR/Variety]
Dumb project alert: How many more can we add to this list in 2009?? Val Kilmer and Ryan Phillippe are in talks to join the feature film adaptation of SNL sketch “MacGruber.” The sketch follows the story of MacGyver’s fictional son who, despite having the talents of his father, consistently get overwhelmed with personal issues and fails in heroic efforts. Will Forte and Kristen Wiig star as the title character and his assistant, respectively on the show, but a SNL sketch and a feature film are two very different kettle of fish. [THR]
