New 'Salt' Pics; Frank Darabont's 'The Walking Dead' Invades AMC & Timur Bekmambetov Takes On 'Frankenstein'

Some new pictures from Angelina Jolie’s forthcoming spy thriller “Salt” have popped up online in advance of a new trailer that is supposed to premiere Thursday on Apple Trailers. We hope the movie is more exciting than the stills. There is one to the left, and you can view the rest at the link above. Jolie and her many colored wigs hit theaters on July 23rd.

Frank Darabont’s “The Walking Dead” has found a home at AMC who have ordered up six episodes. Written and directed by Darabont, and based on the graphic novels by Robert Kirkman is a survival tale in a world ravaged by a zombie apocalypse. On the upside, this is the home of “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad” so the potential for greatness is there. The downside is that Darabont’s last hand at horror/supernatural fare was the dreadful “The Mist.” We hope there is a new spin on this quickly tiring genre or it will get very old, very fast. The series will premiere in October during the network’s Fearfest.

Timur Bekmambetov (“Night Watch,” “Wanted”) is set to direct “The Casebook Of Victor Frankenstein.” Based on the novel by Peter Ackroyd, the story is a reimagining of Mary Shelley’s classic tale as told from the perspective of Victor Frankenstein. David Auburn (“Proof,” “The Lake House”) will be adapting the screenplay.

For the five of you that are anxiously awaiting a sequel to “Dark Crystal,” production designer Brian Froud has revealed that the project is still “inching” towards production. He reveals he has been designing for the forthcoming film and talking with the director Genndy Tartakovsky. Apparently some graphic novels are in the works as well.

Dean Parisot (“Fun With Dick And Jane”) is in discussions to direct “SEAL” based on the graphic novel “SOCOM: Seal Team 7” (isn’t this a video game?) by M. Zachary Sherman. The project is “a political action film that mixes the Tom Clancy submarine thriller with a dollop of fanboy fantasy intrigue” and follows “Navy SEALS investigating a mysterious submarine drowning in the Persian Gulf, as well as battling forces in the underwater kingdom of Atlantis.” Our brain hurts.
